This is shameless self-promotion! I realised recently that many of the earlier recipes which I posted on here are probably merely gathering dust in some outer circle of the internet, since there's no reason that anybody would access them these days unless they already knew they were there, and knew to go directly to them.
And so: a book. As illustrated above, in fact. A collection of some of the best of...
In truth, there was a secondary motive in compiling the thing, which was as a distraction from the TD's recent and rather grim health crisis: he's now in hospital with a broken back, and recovering from emergency heart surgery (just over a week ago), while they try and isolate the underlying infection which has caused all of this. Anyway, late at night, and in between hospital visits, it's been cathartic just to edit a few more recipes, and to work on the draft for the book. It's now gone live, and can be found here

Oh Pomiane, I am so sorry to hear your news and sorry also that I am coming so late to it. You have been going through the toughest of times and I'm glad there has been this distraction for you. I also hope that you have a circle of friends who are supporting you both, that the TD is getting excellent care and that over a month on from your original post he is well on the way to recovery. Wishing you both all the very best over the coming weeks.
Many thanks for your kind words. Friends - both long-distance and closer at hand - have been wonderful; people generally are, when something like this happens. TD came home several weeks ago (a bit soon, in truth, but he hated so much being in hospital), and although the first weeks at home were quite challenging, he's now recovering more and more each day. They think they've knocked the infection on the head; his back still gives trouble, but less so every day, and around the house he can now walk most of the time without needing the walking frame...the main problem is how weak he is because he lost almost half his body weight...and so is now on a 24/7 diet of unhealthy high calorie stuff, to try and build some bulk back: crisps, chocolate, biscuits, fizzy drinks....all the stuff that is normally banned. We're getting there, though. I hope all is well with you.
So glad the TD is home and improving. I know what the "leaving hospital too early" scenario is like - Tod had enough after his kidney op and demanded to come home where he said he would convalesce better. I spent the first week terrified something might go wrong. Good luck with the body building!
Our situation was a bit more basic. In order to come home TD had lied in his teeth and told them he was more-or-less mobile (which he wasn't; he couldn't walk at all) and when the ambulance men delivered him, they couldn't get their gurney upstairs, and so he was delivered to a chair in the kitchen, where they left him. Only subsequently did I get him upstairs (in a wheelchair, pulling it backwards, step by step by step, which practically finished me off), and then, three rooms away, into bed....from which he didn't/couldn't move for the next ten days! There were moments when it was touch and go whether Ifinished him off before the infection could do so!
Heavens Pomiane!!! Yet again coming late to your blog - apologies. You were both unbelievably brave. I hope now, between the two of you, life is gradually returning to some form of normality and that TD has put on some weight. We could let him have some of ours! We are both comfort eating (unfortunately) as we inch towards plans for the next stage of our elderly lives - I greatly admire your project. Is it on hold at the moment?
