In an otherwise empty shopping trolley in Waitrose, a discarded shopping list. On a lined sheet that had been torn from a small spiral-bound notebook, in uncertain handwriting, the necessities of life were set out:
Vodka
Sausages
Breed (sic)
Baked Beans
Vodka
Is this a sign of the times?
No 'five a day on' that list...
ReplyDeleteAlmost, though - potatoes (from which vodka is distilled); Beans, and tomatoes in the sauce; wheat (in the 'Breed')....and if we assume it was a fruit loaf, then there you go...bingo! Not sure that was quite what the blessed Tony had in mind when he came up with the idea originally, though.
ReplyDeleteI think that might have been my list - I forgot the bread.
ReplyDeleteThe shopping list is a tad worrying..
ReplyDeleteI have just read your comment regarding the (eggless)pasta and noticed that you may be in London.
There is a charming restaurant in Bermondsey called Zucca, where they do really good pici.
Alas, the menu changes daily and pici are not often on it,but they are better then the stuff that i had in Italy.
Andy
Do you think that maybe they hadn't read Stevie's piece, and in fact made their pasta dough with eggs? (1 cup of '00' flour, to 1 cup of semolina, to 3 medium eggs, plus a teaspoon of oil and a generous pinch of salt.)
ReplyDeleteBack to Italy on the 10.55 tomorrow morning, so I'm afraid Bermondsey will have to wait until next time. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
