I can hear drips in the loft above us again. Like you, we have had so much rain, which we've needed, but I could do with getting out in the garden. I've been slow to react to your reply at the beginning of September. We've been busy getting the cottage ready (and COVID cleaned) for late booking Germans - bless them - who are already talking about coming back next year, despite the fact that it's rained continuously now for days and gone chilly. So I'm pootling, and catching up with emails and blogs. Will be glad when the rain's stopped and I can get out and do some serious weeding after months of rock hard ground. In the meantime, so glad I've caught up again. As soon as we have anything like normality and friends round I'll be raiding your recipes. :) suejhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04072740351690646281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6588271884913192260.post-31107495187492501682020-09-01T08:42:19.588+00:002020-09-01T08:42:19.588+00:00Well - with slight embarrassment - I confess it...Well - with slight embarrassment - I confess it's because I've recently been persuaded to start posting on Instagram (the slight embarrassment because I'm not convinced that it's the sort of thing I should really be doing at my age!) and so at the same time I put relevant recipes on Pomiane. With masks - which I have to say I find quite uncomfortable; the idea of wearing one for the duration of a flight would not be something I'd welcome. TD has been quite relaxed about getting his hair cut (with his flowing silvery locks, he now resembles George III in his final days, when he was totally potty, and has life was reduced to roaming the galleries at Windsor, filled with harpsichords and chiming clocks...) - Franco has been booked to come round on Tuesday, however, and will wield his hair clippers in the safety of the garden.
I can't really say what the local population is doing here re distancing, since I haven't seen any reason to go beyond the gates in the past week. The only job - which I forgot to mention, in fact - where lockdown is relevant is the fact that I've been taking advantage of their absence to nip through into the Scouts' field next door in order to take down from their side a lot of fifty-year old bay trees, which presumably started life long-ago as a small hedge, in order to let through a lot more light into the soft fruit garden, and into the South Garden. When life returns to normal, and the Scouts re-surface, I can be confident that they will notice no difference...

I'm a bit surprised that you anticipate international arrivals - I thought the EU restriction is that international travel can only be 'in case of emergency' , and that that's unlikely to change before at least September. We don't expect to be able to go to London again before then at the very least. We have friends in the UK and in Holland who are champing at the bit to return to their houses here, and the current rules don't seem to allow it. There was some noise on Radio 4 recently, too, about introducing a formal fourteen day quarantine for anybody arriving into the UK - and were they actually to do that, I could imagine that what's sauce for the Goose, etc.

In theory, I may be able to get my haircut again on 1 June, which is accordingly currently the next red-letter day in the calendar! Cautious use of the kitchen scissors as I stand in front of the bathroom mirror is very definitely a sub-optimal compromise...Pomianehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05396853206841588293noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6588271884913192260.post-45398320279071824292020-04-30T07:14:16.300+00:002020-04-30T07:14:16.300+00:00Lovely to see the photos of your garden - my is it...Lovely to see the photos of your garden - my is it lush!
